critical investigation tutorial

·         I agree with your change of text – I think Dope will work well for black representations and the comedy genre makes things interesting. There should be some points you can make regarding the use of stereotypes in comedy (and plenty of research that links to this).
·         Your research plan is going to be crucial – needs to balance online resources (many of which will already be in your summer project research) with powerful academic research. Look for Alvarado, Franz Fanon and Gilroy – these are all post-colonial theorists who have written about black representations in the media.
·         One critical part is your title or question – due to the fact you’ve changed your text make sure your working title has the clarity of purpose to lead the investigation. Think about your hypothesis – do you want to focus on comedy? Film in general? We can work on this later but really give it some thought when finishing up your proposal.
·         Linked production – film or music video. Film a more natural link but if you are creating certain representations of black people in a music video that could work.
·         Next steps: finish project proposal and start building a comprehensive research plan.

·         Post this to your blog with a brief plan for what you will work on in the next 10 days.
